Short Answer

Changes can be made using the Edit Planting tools for existing placements. If the mix definition itself needs to change, edit the mix library, update the palette, download the revised palette and use Substitute Planting where required.

Details

There is no direct association between palettes (including mixes) and Revit models. For simple changes including Location parameters, Edge Graphics & Fill Patterns, Placement as 2D Only (or 3D) and Tagging, use the associated Edit Planting tools in CS ArtisanRV. Note that the Plant Browser tool is particularly beneficial when wanting to edit multiple 'instances ' of mix placements already in the model.

If there are fundamental changes to a mix, including mix components and/or associated specification details (including percentages), the following steps are recommended...

1. Edit Planting Mix in Mixes Libraries (copy existing mix and rename if you want to retain original mix)
2. Delete original mix from palette.
3. Add modified mix into palette.
4. Download palette.
5. Place planting or use the Substitutions tools to modify planting already in the model. If multiple 'instances' of the original mix have already been placed in the model, the Substitute Planting tool from the Plant Browser is the most efficient way to apply multiple changes.

Short Answer

Specification Age indicates the age and nursery growing history of young trees and shrubs. The symbols + or / indicate that the plant has been transplanted, while u or = indicate that it has been undercut. Transplanting and undercutting help develop a dense, fibrous root system, improving establishment and survival when the plant is moved to its final location. For example, 0/1/2 describes a cutting grown for one year, transplanted, and then grown on for a further two years.

For young/small trees (seedlings, cuttings, transplants and occasionally whips and feathered trees) it is necessary to specify the age and condition of the tree. It is best to be precise and follow the designations indicated below which are internationally recognised.

Within these definitions the following conventions are followed.

+ or / indicates transplanting

u or = indicates undercutting

Transplanting (or undercutting) encourages a compact and fibrous root system and enables the easier and more successful supply and establishment of large trees. The following are recommendations for the number of times trees of different sizes should be transplanted.

Ideally trees should be transplanted once every three years until Semi-Mature or Specimen size when they should be transplanted every five years

The same tool is used for placing single, linear and area planting, with users selecting the option required after selecting plant from a downloaded palette. Note that users are also able to place single plants using the  Existing Tree and the Concept Planting tools .

To place single specimens using the Detailed Planting tools...

• Select a plant from a Downloaded Palette .
• Modify Settings
• Define Tag Options
• Pick Place Planting

Note that there are optional options to change the default  Elevational Symbol Type and  Plan Symbol Type as required.

All elements can be modified after placement using the Edit Planting tools .

• Select a plant (or mix) from a Downloaded Palette .
• Modify Settings including Location, Line Style, Type (Native Hedge, Ornamental Hedge, Avenue).
• Define Tag Options
• Pick Place Planting

Note that there are optional options to change the default  Elevational Symbol Type (for Avenue Planting only) and  Plan Symbol Type (for Avenue Planting only) as required.

The same tool is used for placing single, linear and area planting, with users selecting the option required after selecting plant from a downloaded palette. Note that users are also able to place linear plants using the  Concept Planting tools .

To place linear planting using the Detailed Planting tools...

• Select a plant (or mix) from a Downloaded Palette .
• Modify Settings including Location, Edge Graphics, Fill pattern.

Note that there are options to change the Cover Percentage of the selected area (default is 100%) and to define a Plant Code (perticularly useful when placing Planting Mixes and wanting to use  Compact Tags or Type Marks .   Elevational Symbol Type (for Avenue Planting only) and  Plan Symbol Type (for Avenue Planting only) as required.
