Standard Workflow - Planting Palettes

Purpose

Planting Palettes provide a structured method for organising, managing, and deploying plant content within ArtisanRV. Palettes act as project-specific collections of plants, enabling designers to quickly access approved planting selections, maintain consistency across projects, and streamline planting workflows from concept through detailed design.


Prerequisites

Before creating or managing Planting Palettes:

  1. Plant content has been added to the organisation's plant database.
  2. Appropriate plant selections have been identified for the project.
  3. User permissions allow palette creation and editing.
  4. Project planting requirements have been defined.

Phase 1: Create a Planting Palette

1. Create a New Palette

  1. Open the Palette Manager.
  2. Select Create New Palette.
  3. Enter:
    • Palette Name
    • Description
    • Project or Client Reference (if applicable)
  4. Save the palette.

Verification: The new palette appears in the available palette list.


2. Define Palette Structure

Organise the palette according to the project requirements.

Typical groups include:

  • Trees
  • Shrubs
  • Hedges
  • Groundcovers
  • Perennials
  • Grasses
  • Climbers
  • Wetland Plants
  • Seed Mixes

Verification: The palette structure supports the intended planting design workflow.


Phase 2: Populate the Palette

3. Add Plants to the Palette

  1. Open the Plant Browser.
  2. Search for required plant types.
  3. Select one or more plants.
  4. Add the selected plants to the palette.
  5. Save changes.

Verification: Selected plants are visible within the palette.


4. Add Other Planting Content

Where applicable, add:

  • Seed Mixes
  • Concept Planting Types
  • Plant Groups
  • Specialist Planting Categories

Verification: All required planting content is available from a single palette.


5. Remove Unwanted Content

  1. Review palette contents.
  2. Remove obsolete or unsuitable plants.
  3. Save the updated palette.

Verification: Only approved project content remains.


Phase 3: Manage Palette Content

6. Review Plant Information

For each palette entry verify:

  • Botanical Name
  • Common Name
  • Plant Category
  • Specification Information
  • Supplier Information
  • Design Suitability

Verification: Plant information is complete and consistent.


7. Update Palette Content

As the design develops:

  1. Add newly approved plants.
  2. Remove superseded selections.
  3. Reorganise groups where necessary.
  4. Save revisions.

Verification: The palette remains aligned with the current design.


Phase 4: Use the Palette in Projects

8. Load the Palette

  1. Open the planting tools.
  2. Select the required palette.
  3. Confirm all required content is available.

Verification: Palette content is ready for placement.


9. Place Plants from the Palette

Use the palette for:

  • Individual Specimens
  • Tree Planting
  • Shrub Planting
  • Hedges
  • Avenues
  • Planting Areas
  • Seed Mix Areas

Verification: Plants can be placed directly from the palette into the model.


10. Maintain Design Consistency

Throughout the project:

11. Share Approved Planting Palettes

  2. Make palettes available to design team members.

12. Reuse Standard Planting Palettes

For repeat project types, maintain template palettes such as:

  • Streetscape Palette
  • Residential Development Palette
  • Commercial Landscape Palette
  • School Landscape Palette
  • Biodiversity and Ecology Palette
  • Native Planting Palette

Verification: Standard plant selections can be deployed efficiently across multiple projects.


Phase 6: Schedule and Documentation

13. Generate Planting Documentation

Using content from the palette:

14. Review Schedule Coordination

Confirm:

  • All scheduled plants exist within the palette.
