Introduction

The Seed Mixes section provides tools and information for creating, managing, and applying seed-based planting mixes within Artisan. Seed mixes enable multiple species or varieties to be combined into a single planting specification, allowing designers to represent meadow, wildflower, grassland, and other seeded landscape areas efficiently and consistently throughout a project.

Note that it is common practice to simply define Seed Mixes by the name of the mix only, with the details of mix components (and proportions) recorded elsewhere. Planting mix 'types' are then placed into model areas and associated areas are detailed in schedules without the need to calculate individual species 'quantities' as with standard planting (Trees, Shrubs, Herbaceous, Bamboo). Landscape professionals usually specify total areas for seed mixes and quantities are normally calculated by weight, based on 'application rates' defined by the seed mix supplier. As a consequence, it is recommened practice to create 'Seed Mixes' as Softworks Category items, rather than as 'Planting Mixes': the latter is designed to enable users to calculate individual species numbers, which should not be relevant to seed mixes.

Seed mixes are maintained as data-rich library records that can be incorporated into palettes and subsequently used within Artisan drawings and models. This approach allows organisations to standardise planting specifications, reuse commonly adopted mixtures, and ensure consistency across multiple projects and team members.

Once created, seed mixes can be selected, placed, labelled, quantified, and reported using the same integrated workflows that support other Artisan content. Because mix definitions are centrally managed, changes can be controlled efficiently and applied consistently wherever the mix is used.
