Standard Workflow - Plant Browser

Purpose

The Plant Browser provides a central location for finding, filtering, reviewing, and selecting plant content within ArtisanRV. It enables users to locate suitable plant types quickly using search and filter tools, review plant characteristics, and add selected plants to project palettes and planting workflows.


Prerequisites

Before using the Plant Browser:

  1. ArtisanRV is installed and active within Revit.
  2. Plant libraries have been downloaded and are available locally.
  3. Required plant databases and palettes are configured.
  4. The project planting strategy has been established.

Phase 1: Open the Plant Browser

1. Launch the Plant Browser

  1. Open the ArtisanRV ribbon.
  2. Select the Plant Browser command.
  3. Allow the plant database to load.

Verification: The Plant Browser displays available plant content and search options.


Phase 2: Search for Plants

2. Search by Plant Name

  1. Enter a plant name into the search field.
  2. Review matching results.
  3. Refine the search if required.

Typical searches may include:

  • Botanical Name
  • Common Name
  • Cultivar Name
  • Supplier Reference

Verification: The results list displays plant types matching the search criteria.


3. Apply Plant Filters

Use filters to narrow the selection based on project requirements.

Typical filters include:

  • Plant Category
  • Tree Type
  • Shrub Type
  • Groundcover
  • Perennial
  • Climber
  • Grass
  • Native Plant
  • Evergreen
  • Deciduous

Verification: Only plants matching the selected criteria remain visible.


4. Combine Multiple Filters

  1. Select additional filter criteria.
  2. Review the reduced result set.
  3. Continue refining until suitable plants are identified.

Example:

  • Tree Category
  • Deciduous Habit
  • Ornamental Character

Verification: Search results provide a manageable selection of candidate plants.


Phase 3: Review Plant Information

5. Inspect Plant Properties

Select a plant from the results list and review:

  • Botanical Name
  • Common Name
  • Plant Category
  • Mature Height
  • Mature Spread
  • Form
  • Habit
  • Characteristic Information
  • Performance Information

Verification: Plant suitability can be assessed against project requirements.


6. Compare Alternative Plants

  1. Select multiple candidate plants.
  2. Review key characteristics.
  3. Compare visual and specification information.
  4. Identify the most appropriate option.

Verification: A preferred plant selection has been identified.


Phase 4: Build a Project Palette

7. Add Plants to a Palette

  1. Select the required plants.
  2. Choose Add to Palette.
  3. Select an existing palette or create a new one.
  4. Save the palette.

Verification: Selected plants appear within the project palette.


8. Organise Palette Content

Review the palette and organise plants into project groups as required.

Examples:

  • Trees
  • Shrubs
  • Hedges
  • Perennials
  • Grasses
  • Wetland Planting

Verification: The palette reflects the project's planting strategy.


Phase 5: Use Selected Plants in Design

9. Place Plants from the Palette

Once suitable plants have been selected:

  1. Open the planting placement tools.
  2. Select the required palette.
  3. Choose a plant type.
  4. Place plants within the model.

Plant placement may include:

  • Specimen Planting
  • Groups
  • Hedges
  • Avenues
  • Planting Areas

Verification: Selected plants are successfully placed and visible within the model.


10. Refine Plant Selections

Throughout the design process:

  1. Return to the Plant Browser.
  2. Review alternative plant options.
  3. Update palette content where necessary.
  4. Replace plant selections if design requirements change.

Verification: The planting design remains aligned with project objectives.


Phase 6: Schedule and Coordination

11. Review Selected Plant Inventory

Verify that all chosen plants:

  • Meet project objectives
  • Are available within the palette
  • Are correctly categorised
  • Support project specifications

Verification: Plant content is ready for detailed modelling and documentation.


12. Coordinate with Planting Documentation

Use selected plants to generate:

  • Plant Schedules
  • Planting Plans
  • Specification Documents
  • Quantity Reports

Verification: Project documentation accurately reflects selected plant content.
