Standard Workflow - Linear Path

Purpose

Use Linear Path to create landscape planting, hedging, avenue planting, linear features, and other path-based planting arrangements that follow a defined route through the model. Linear Paths provide a controlled method for distributing planting content along a user-defined alignment while maintaining accurate scheduling and documentation.


Prerequisites

Before creating a Linear Path:

  1. The required plant types have been added to the project palette.
  2. Site layout geometry is available.
  3. Required planting specifications have been defined.
  4. Proposed terrain and landscape layouts have been coordinated.
  5. Appropriate planting visibility settings are enabled.

Outcome: The project is ready for path-based planting design.


1. Review Planting Requirements

  1. Confirm the planting design intent.
  2. Identify the planting type to be used along the path:
    • Hedge planting
    • Shrub planting
    • Linear herbaceous planting
    • Avenue planting
    • Mixed planting arrangements
  3. Verify spacing and specification requirements.

Outcome: Planting requirements are defined before placement begins.


2. Create the Linear Path

  1. Open the Linear Path tool.
  2. Select the required plant type.
  3. Define the path alignment by drawing or selecting the desired route.
  4. Complete the path geometry.
  5. Review the proposed path before final placement.

Outcome: A continuous planting path is created within the model.


3. Configure Placement Settings

  1. Review placement options.
  2. Define:
    • Plant spacing
    • Distribution method
    • Quantity requirements
    • Orientation settings
    • Path offset where required
  3. Confirm the settings.

Outcome: Plant distribution parameters are established.


4. Generate Planting Along the Path

  1. Execute the placement command.
  2. Allow ArtisanRV to distribute planting along the defined route.
  3. Review the resulting planting arrangement.
  4. Verify spacing and placement consistency.

Outcome: Plants are automatically positioned along the Linear Path.


5. Edit the Linear Path

  1. Select the Linear Path.
  2. Modify the path geometry where necessary.
  3. Add, remove, or adjust path vertices.
  4. Regenerate the planting arrangement if required.
  5. Review updated results.

Outcome: The path reflects project design changes while maintaining planting coordination.


6. Coordinate with Site Elements

  1. Display:
    • Buildings
    • Hard landscape elements
    • Terrain
    • Drainage infrastructure
    • Existing and proposed trees
  2. Review potential conflicts.
  3. Adjust the path alignment where necessary.
  4. Verify clearances and design intent.

Outcome: Linear planting is coordinated with the wider landscape design.


7. Review Plant Quantities

  1. Open project planting schedules.
  2. Refresh planting data if required.
  3. Review:
    • Plant species
    • Quantities
    • Spacing
    • Path length
    • Planting specification information
  4. Verify the schedule against design requirements.

Outcome: Accurate quantities are available for procurement and documentation.


8. Tag Linear Planting

  1. Open the tagging tools.
  2. Select the desired tag style.
  3. Tag the Linear Path planting arrangement.
  4. Review label clarity and positioning.
  5. Confirm consistency with schedule data.

Outcome: Planting information is clearly displayed on project drawings.


9. Review in Multiple Views

  1. Examine the Linear Path in:
    • Plan views
    • 3D views
    • Sections
    • Presentation views
  2. Confirm planting appearance and distribution.
  3. Verify the planting follows the intended route.

Outcome: The Linear Path performs correctly across all project views.


10. Produce Project Documentation

  1. Update:
    • Planting plans
    • General arrangement drawings
    • Landscape coordination plans
    • Plant schedules
  2. Add schedules and views to sheets.
  3. Review annotation consistency.
  4. Publish project documentation.

Outcome: Linear planting is fully documented and coordinated across the project.
