Standard Workflow - Planting

This workflow is based on the ArtisanRV design philosophy and the CloudScapes data-centric approach. The recommended workflow is:

Cloud Libraries → Project Palette → Model Components → Schedules

Unlike traditional CAD or BIM planting workflows that start by placing objects, ArtisanRV starts with authoritative planting data and specifications, ensuring that design, quantification, and reporting remain synchronised throughout the project lifecycle. Features such as dynamic schedules, plant tagging, characteristic information from the web repository, and support for specimens, hedges, avenues, and planting areas are core parts of the workflow.


Phase 1: Build the Project Palette

1. Search and Select Plants

Begin by searching the CloudScapes cloud repository for approved planting material.

The repository provides:

  • Botanical information
  • Characteristic and performance information
  • Planting specification content
  • National Plant Specification (NPS) information
  • Project-standard planting data

ArtisanRV is designed to use characteristic and performance information sourced from the web repository.

Deliverable

A project-specific Plant Palette containing:

  • Specimen plants
  • Shrubs
  • Trees
  • Groundcovers
  • Plant mixes
  • Hedging species
  • Avenue species

Phase 2: Develop Concept Planting

2. Create Early Design Studies

Where required, use Concept Planting before progressing to detailed planting design.

The Help system specifically identifies support for creating early-phase Concept Planting prior to detailed placements.

  • Establish planting character
  • Explore species combinations
  • Test landscape structure
  • Review visual impact

Deliverable

Concept planting strategy linked to approved palette content.


Phase 3: Place Planting Components

3. Place Detailed Planting

After palette approval, place planting content into the Revit model.

ArtisanRV supports placement as:

Specimen Planting

Individual Revit planting family instances.

Hedges

Linear planting with quantity derived from length and spacing.

Phase 4: Configure Plant Data

4. Manage Types and Parameters

ArtisanRV uses Revit Planting Families with both Type and Instance Parameters.

Users should:

  • Populate required schedule fields
  • Verify NPS-related data

Deliverable

Fully attributed model content ready for reporting.


Phase 5: Review and Visualise

5. Control Representation

Use Visibility Options to control how planting is displayed during different project stages.

Phase 7: Tag and Annotate

7. Apply Plant Tags

Use the Plant Tagging system to display selected information within views.

The Help system notes that tagging options are fully customisable.
