The Edit Multi-Select tool enables multiple single plants to be connected.

Select Edit Multi_Select from the Edit Planting pop-down menu...

Select single plants to associate together.

Pick Finish to complete the selection.

The 5 singular plants above that are the same species are re-associated as confirmed by the former individual tags being converted to a single tag that totals all instances.
